My Place

T'was in the windy city where I was born, but there I never found a home.
My heart had known before my past, in concrete walls I would not last.
Could it be these feet of mine, would find the sand the place they'd pine?
Alas the beach was not the place, for that my forlorn heart would race.
Canopy of trees, shines filtered sun, a breathe of honeysuckle where I run,
T'was a hoosier I'm meant to be, with clay soil beneath my feet.
Just one acre, my little woods. But this place does suit me good.
And here I'll be a hoosier best, and live my life til time to rest.

Blue Eyed White, Vienna Marked,Vienna Carrier

Over 6 years ago I purchased a couple Angoras for their spinning Fiber.  They did come with pedigrees.  Though really it didn't matter to me.  I wanted all colors in fiber.  I was only picky about the texture.
There were people I knew about that fancied certain colors.  Harlequins, Chocolate and Blue Eyed White come to mind. Harlequin and Blue Eyed White at that time I don't believe where showable.
Harlequin still is not with English Angoras.

Blue Eyed White in your line, if your not wanting to produce Blue Eyed White can present a bit of a disadvantage. You can end up passing off the gene for Vienna Marked or producing Vienna Marked rabbits. Vienna Marked rabbits are disqualified from showing. So you can end up with a bunch of purely pet Angoras or a lot of culling to do.

Once Vienna is in your line, its there.  You can only test breed with a Blue Eyed White to be sure it's not in your line.  But most folks if not wanting to raise Blue Eyed White are not going to have one to test to.  I'm wondering just how clean lines are anymore. Especially if breeders do not disclose that there are possible carriers in their line.  Once your into the 4th generation some pedigrees don't show anyway.

I'm spent out.  The money I had to start our line of Angoras is spent. The rabbit Snow and Ciar I purchased possibly could be cariers of the Vienna gene.  I wasn't diligent enough to make sure that didn't happen. The breeders didn't disclose it until I received the pedigrees. It's pretty common to not show pedigrees until after animals are received. Some people don't mind that VM is in their line. It just wasn't something I wanted. Now I have it.

I either will sell what I have, keep for just our own  fiber bunnies or raise them with disclosing they have possible VM in the line.  I will decide later   Right now, we will just go feed some bunnies and get bunny snuggles.

Rookie mistake...
